Set-up for success: mindset for healthy living

My top 3 tips for a mindset for healthy living:

Step #1 to a healthy active lifestyle: believe there is nothing inherently wrong with your body, nor your own self-worth.

YOU ARE ALWAYS ENOUGH.

YES, it’s ok to want to change your habits and your appearance, but let’s refrain from shaming our current bodies, and feeling guilty for wanting to improve ourselves.

YES, it’s ok to have days where we don’t feel 100% motivated, or 100% productive.

YES, it’s ok to have days where we eat whatever we want, or take a break as needed, because we deserve that for our own mental health.

We could do all the right exercises, eat all the ‘super healthy’ foods, and have a perfect balance of sleep and productivity… but what matters most is our mindset.

Let’s have [self-compassion] and feel proud that we’re making a series of small changes, which can lead to an overall growth and improvement in our quality of life.

Step #2: Find your WHY to stay motivated for healthy eating and active living.

Check out this incredible article by one of my favourite vegan chefs and registered dieticians, Sadia Badiei on ways to find your motivation for eating healthy (and making healthy habit changes)!

She includes a free PDF to guide you in discovering your 'why,' space to right it down, and tips for carrying out your health goals.

Step #3: A gentle reminder that we are not the sum of our past mistakes.

On most days, I’m a bubbly, high-energy individual, who loves encouraging others to pursue a healthy-active lifestyle.

I’m high-fiving and celebrating these small victories with my friends when they tell me that my recipes, and workout tips lead to positive changes in others lives.

But, there are definitely days where I don’t feel 100% content in my own skin.

After reflecting on my own tendencies, I realize I feel the most down when I start to internalize my own shortcomings and mistakes.

I’ve come to develop a mantra for a healthy life: I am not the sum of my past mistakes. It sounds great, right? Yes, a shiny new motto!

But then, I struggled to truly believe in this phrase, and live it out in my daily actions.

Looking back on the most challenging times during my physiotherapy program, I’ve come to realize that…

Courage comes from knowing where we went wrong, but having the guts to try again in a different way.

Leave a “YES“ in the comments if you believe change starts with how you think!
